2. Certified
I mentioned in my last post about the trials and tribulations of trying to get a GRC. If you haven't read it I recommend you do.
To qualify you need to have lived in your gender identity for 2 years. That means every last scrap of paper needs to be in your new name, you need to be out and physically you need to be obviously your lived gender (not necessarily involving surgery).
Being a hoarder of documents this was relatively easy for me and of course surgery helps despite it not being a prerequisite.
That said I still felt applying that I was laying bare my whole life to an anonymous panel despite it being bloody obvious I am who I am.
It seems my worry was misplaced as I've been granted my Gender Recognition Certificate now!
This will now in time erase my past. Aside from criminal record checks, my past will disappear. I'm free to marry in my acquired gender but once bitten....
Now there is an attempt to diminish our rights from the TERFs of the world who very much see gender as both binary and patriarchal. It's fixed within seconds of birth and you have to look like what society has previously determined gender to mean.
Now my boobs might well be hormonally created (nature doing it's bit because add hormones and my genetics just kick in surprisingly) and I may have a neovagina....yup that's the parlance for it, but in anyway shape or form I'm not male. My chromosomes have never been tested and my oestrogen is comparable. Testosterone is nil effectively.
Yet in their eyes I'm still a man but conversely the balding, testosterone pumped, bearded, tattooed, post histerectomy AFAB is still a girl. Bet you'd be surprised if she walked into the ladies ....
This is where binary gender norms fail. Why? Because society isnt binary and never has been. A quick back check through history shows that's always been the case and statistically women are massively more at risk from their partner or a family member. Let's therefore get gender separate toilets in every house....yeah shows how stupid it is when you say that...
So as I'm now certified what next. Well per Goodwin a legal case from 25 years ago I'm fully certified as a female so that's how íll be going forward.
I'll explore in future blogs why Goodwin means the current TERF ideology will ultimately fail but for now I'll finish this blog with a small statement.
I've joined the female fraternity. I've got your back against the patriarchal system because I've seen and been part of it. I'll fight all your battles shoulder to shoulder with you and Ill protect you from the hooded claw....sorry couldn't resist.... seriously you have no greater ally, confidant and friend.
